My bottom glass is tempered, will a Durso Standpipe work with a bulkhead on the side of the tank?

If the bulkhead will be used towards the bottom of the tank, then simply use an elbow pointing upwards in the bulkhead and then a standard slip Durso Standpipe can be inserted into the elbow.

I would expect to see a performance impact from the additional friction added by the elbows, I don't have a way to quantify this as I haven't personally tried it. The feedback I have gotten from people who have tried it is that overall it works well.

If the bulkhead is towards the upper part of the aquarium the results are not as clear, there seems to be a bigger performance impact. However, it seems to still work for lower flow applications.

Keep in mind you should still add a overflow chamber to protect the standpipe intake and reduce the amount of water that can drain in a power outage.

Richard, I built the Durso Standpipes tonight and you would not believe the difference. My oceanic 200 is almost quite now. I have to work on the humming from the MAK4 and some of the noise from the RIO 1100 and all will be well. I posted a success story on the reefers NG with a link to your site.
